Dear Friend,

After 50 years of reporting, I know a thing or two about the power of individual stories. In 2022, Stossel TV featured remarkable individuals such as Tawanda Hall, Maj Toure, Megyn Kelly, Eric July, Asra Nomani, Adam Corolla, Tim Pool, Didrik Gunnestad, and John McWhorter. Each helped millions understand what’s at stake when individuals are silenced, freedom is lost, or government intervention threatens one’s well-being for the “greater good.”

In 2023, I look forward to building upon 2022’s traction that you’ll see in this report. Stossel TV and Stossel in the Classroom remain committed to the defense of liberty. I’m particularly eager to share what I’ve learned with the next generation. We now have a search underway for a “Stossel Fellow,” whom I will mentor in our New York City studio. Please share the opportunity with any talented and hard-working young person or someone looking to shift careers.

I take great pride in knowing that our content does not depend on government funding. But I do depend on individuals like you. Thank you for your support.

Onward in liberty,
John Stossel

From John Stossel

Dear CIT supporters,

When I retired from teaching in NYC to take the lead of CIT and Stossel in the Classroom just over five years ago, I vowed that CIT would be judicious in the use of donor funds. I’m proud that we have been—and will continue to be.

Unlike members of the political class who see tax dollars as their money to dispense with as they please, we know that we are merely stewards of donor funds. The generosity of our donors allows us to carry on our work to demonstrate the importance of limited government, free enterprise, and individual liberty and responsibility. We take that responsibility seriously.

I hope you’ll be pleased with the progress we’ve made this year. John's Stossel TV continued to produce weekly videos that are seen by millions. Their reach continues to grow. Stossel in the Classroom added more teachers and reached more students. NBTV, which joined CIT two years ago, also saw solid growth. Like John’s videos on the expansive powers of the state, Naomi’s videos on privacy and technology are more important than ever.

In 2022, we emerged from COVID-related power grabs and lockdown dictates, learned of the nefarious role of government in social media, and saw our national debt surpass $30 trillion and then $31 trillion. Interest on that debt is now more than half a trillion dollars a year. We’ve sure got our work cut out for us in 2023!

Best wishes for a happy, healthy, and productive year ahead!

Electric Cars: Inconvenient Facts (Part 1) is Stossel TV’s first video to pass one million views on four separate platforms, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and TikTok.

In 2022, Stossel TV saw surprising demand for longer videos. Nine full length interviews were released to great acclaim and engagement.

SITC conducts an annual essay contests for middle school and high school students, and an annual video contest for middle school, high school, and college students.  Last year’s topics led to 3,111 engaging submissions. In May, SITC awarded $25,000 in prize money to 67 students nationwide.

NBTV: 2022 in Review

I love how you explain rather complicated topics in a simple way. I knew most of the things mentioned in the video, but always learn at least one useful detail from each video. I’m linking your vids to friends because I can’t explain these topics as good as you do.

Partner Network

CIT is proud of the partnerships we have established with other free market and pro-liberty educational organizations.  We strive to break down the territorial borders between organizations because we really are on the same team — the team that educates for liberty.

We look forward to continuing to build and strengthen those partnerships in the year ahead.

In September 2022, in celebration of Constitution Day, John moderated a virtual event for educators. The event was produced in partnership with Lindenwood University’s Hammond Institute for Free Enterprise.

Panelists included Axel Kaiser of Foundation for Progress, and Jeff Nelson of The Russell Kirk Center for Cultural Renewal.
