In Memoriam: Ed Crane 1944-2026
Today, we pause to honor the life of Ed Crane, whose vision and dedication helped shape the liberty movement as we know it.
As co-founder of the Cato Institute, Ed helped build the modern infrastructure of libertarian thought in America. His leadership, vision, and unwavering commitment to individual liberty and limited government shaped public policy debates for decades and strengthened the intellectual foundation of a freer society.
On a personal level, we were especially grateful for Ed’s support of our work. We were deeply touched by his participation in John Stossel’s one billion view celebration, a moment that reflected the power of ideas and storytelling in advancing liberty.
The liberty movement has lost one of its most influential architects, and he will be greatly missed. We remain committed to honoring his legacy by advancing the principles he championed and inspiring the next generation to defend liberty.
Thank you, Ed.
